Answer: Selling in a way that’s in line with how you naturally build relationships.
Or as I like to call it, finding your aligned sales strategy.
Here’s the thing, you have a uniqueness about you.
In how you operate, your personality, how you engage with others, and the more that you run from how you naturally operate, the further out of alignment you get.
I see it time and time again, Coach A wants to sell more spots out in her program. She starts doing research and finds Coach B who is selling her strategy on how she made $500,000 from a single launch.
Coach A purchases it and starts implementing Coach B’s strategy annnnnnnnd… crickets.
Coach A thinks something is wrong with her, starts beating herself up because everyone else can figure it out but her, etc.
^That’s exactly how to not sell in a way that feels good to you.
Instead, Coach A should’ve turned inward and asked herself…
“How do I best build relationships?”
Then built a strategy from that.
So if you are feeling like Coach A right now, here’s what I want you to do:
Grab a pen and a piece of paper (or type it out if you’re more of the typin’ type) and ask yourself that question.
How do you best build relationships?
If you get stumped on that, ask yourself this…
“If I were at a networking event, how would I navigate a room full of strangers?”
Would you go up and start meeting people? Would you hope people came up to you? Do you steer clear of networking events because it sounds like your worst nightmare?
All of that matters here. We want to get down to how YOU naturally operate so we can complement it with strategy.
Let’s say you best build relationships through being with people in person so you can feed off their energy.
Networking events are a great option for you.
Let’s say you best build relationships when people initiate a conversation with you.
Writing strong call to actions that invite people into your DM’s and make them feel welcome and comfortable would be a great option for you.
Let’s say you best build relationships by reaching out to others.
Finding your dream customer asking a question somewhere and DM-ing them with value would be a great option for you.
Now that you have that information, it’s time to get you leads…
Go through your current conversations, followers list, recent comments, etc., and find 5 people you feel aligned with and want to start building relationships with.
Keep track of those 5 people in a spreadsheet or on your notes app so you don’t lose track (you’ll leave money on the table if you’re unorganized here!) and get on their radar.
Whether it’s engaging with their content, finding something relevant to DM them about, DM-ing them value, liking their posts, etc.
Whatever feels most aligned with you. Focus on relationship building here – not selling.
Remember: relationships are the foundation of sales – it’s very hard to make a sale (especially a high-ticket one) without a prior relationship.
Don’t force a conversation. Let it naturally happen in a way that feels authentic for you.
As you start having conversations and building a value-based relationship…
Don’t hesitate to let them know that you can help them with their problem.
I typically do this after I’ve given value and established a solid relationship and once they start asking me questions about how they can accomplish XYZ.
I give away the “what” and the “why” then position myself as the “how” because that’s what feels aligned with me and how I best operate. The goal here is to figure out what works for you and only you know what that looks like.
If you have a solid relationship, you understand their pain and feel passionate that you can help them, 9.9 times out of 10 they’ll get on a discovery call with you.
Approach that sales call like you’re talking with a friend. Check out my YouTube if you need help with this, I have a bunch of trainings on how to nail your discovery calls!
There you have it! That’s how to sell in a way that feels good to you.
You want to focus on how YOU naturally build relationships and have conversations then honor that with a strategy that is going to move the needle for you.
