Having the right mentor can make or break your business. If you’re wondering how to find the right business coach, then this article is for you!
Let’s use me as an example to start this off.
It took me over 5 MONTHS to make a single dollar in my business when I first started because I thought I could do it all on my own.
Booooyyyy was I wrong I quickly had egg on my face with that mentality.
When I was on month 5 of zero dollars at the start of my business, I had 2 options:
I chose the latter.
My coach’s guidance and empowerment is what helped scale my business to where it is today and I can tell ya right now, if I didn’t make that bet on myself I would be right back in a 9-5.
Miserable as ever.
Isn’t it crazy how usually it’s those incredibly uncomfortable “sink or swim” moments in our life that makes it all worthwhile? (It took me a long time to realize this ).
So, how do you go about finding the right coach/mentor for you and your business? Here are a few ways:
Does 1:1 support go further for you than a group program? I ESPECIALLY suggest this if you are a new or aspiring coach.
Yes, group price tags are more desirable but you’ll need that 1:1 handholding to help get you the alignment and confidence to stand behind your business, let alone start selling your program!
How often do you want to be able to access your coach? What do you feel you need the most support in?

Are they practicing what they preach?
This is a big one for me. Is my coach investing in her learning? Will I benefit from that as her client?
I always ask if my coach has a coach.
Do you vibe?
Do you mesh?
What does your gut say throughout your Zoom conversation?
Do you feel comfortable talking to them?
If you join their high-ticket program, you’re going to be working with this person for a long period of time. You want to make sure you mesh!
Side note – if you are a coach, the same goes for you here! ALWAYS get a Zoom with your prospect to make sure they feel aligned for you as well. This isn’t a one-way street here!
Are they pushy?
Do they give you space to think about your decision instead of encouraging you to say yes immediately?
The way they handle this says a lot about their character and integrity – definitely something to pay attention to!
If someone is remotely close to pushy with me through DM or Zoom, it’s an immediate turn-off and I’ll likely end the conversation right then and there.
Your new coach should be understanding that this is an investment. You need time to marinate and make sure it feels aligned for you and where you’re looking to go.
